Prometheus is a cultural initiative at the intersection of contemporary art and civil society. Our ecosystem includes an archive of political art; a research and educational programme; a gallery; exhibition and publishing projects; a talent agency; a residency for underrepresented artists; and a prize in political art. Our work is carried out by a dedicated team and a community of artists united by humanistic values and a clear anti-war stance.
We are developing and preserving a unique archive of critical art by Russian-speaking artists, conducting research, and engaging in global public education, while laying the groundwork for a future Museum of Critical Art. We have assembled the largest collection of political art: over 600 works by more than 300 Russian-speaking artists, both in exile and in Russia. This collection reflects the depth of expression and underscores our commitment to humanitarian issues.
Our focus spans anti-war narratives, Russian imperialism, decoloniality, human rights, inequality, pro-feminism, anti-propaganda, and LGBTQ+ rights.
Since September 2023, we have organised over 25 exhibitions of anti-war and critical art worldwide, welcoming more than 10,000 visitors and reaching over 13 million people through media. These exhibitions offer a platform for diverse voices on urgent societal issues. The largest one—Artists Against the Kremlin—is held annually in Amsterdam; we are producing its third edition for 2026. That same year, we plan to launch a residency programme for underrepresented artists, providing rehabilitation, workshops, and support for integration into the European art community.
Our project helps courageous artists be heard and amplifies voices opposing the Kremlin, who face reprisals in Russia. Our mission is to support those who speak against autocracy, censorship, and the invasion of Ukraine, and to build a platform and a market for independent artists while securing representation and meaningful opportunities for them.
