Michael Squires

Michael Squires is an accomplished journalist with extensive experience in investigative reporting and editorial leadership. Currently serving as the Southwest Editor at ProPublica since December 2020, Michael leads the investigative unit covering several Western states. Prior to this role, Michael held various editorial positions at The Arizona Republic from 2013 to 2020, including Investigative Editor, where oversight of a nine-member investigative team was carried out. Noteworthy achievements include a groundbreaking project on wildfire vulnerability across Western towns. Michael also served as Government and Politics Editor, Page One Editor at The Arizona Republic, and held significant roles at the Las Vegas Sun and the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Michael began a journalism career as a copy editor at Dow Jones Newswires and has a Master's degree in Journalism from Columbia University, along with a Bachelor's degree in English from Brigham Young University.
