Steve Mayo

Co-Founder at Protabit

Steve Mayo has a long and varied work experience. Steve began their career in 1989 as Co-Founder and VP of Biological Sciences at Molecular Simulations, Inc (now Accelrys/Biovia). In 1992, they became the Bren Professor of Biology and Chemistry; Merkin Institute Professor at Caltech. In 1997, they Co-Founded Xencor. In 2009, they Co-Founded Protabit. In 2019, they joined the Advisory Board of RubrYc Therapeutics, Inc. In 2021, they joined the Board of Directors of Merck and Sarepta Therapeutics. In 2022, they joined the Board of Directors of Allogene Therapeutics.

Steve Mayo completed their B.S. in Chemistry from Penn State University between 1979 and 1983. Steve then went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Caltech from 1983 to 1987. Following this, they completed two postdoctoral programs, one in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley between 1988 and 1989, and one in Biochemistry from Stanford University School of Medicine between 1991 and 1992.
