The Protected Areas Commission (PAC) is the national agency responsible for managing and safeguarding Guyana’s National Protected Areas System (NPAS). Our mandate is to conserve Guyana’s rich biodiversity, protect cultural and natural heritage, and support the well-being of communities who depend on these landscapes.

From the Shell Beach Protected Area in the northwest to the Kanuku Mountains in the south, our team works across Guyana to ensure that nature and people thrive together. Our staff carry out a wide range of work, including but not limited to developing and implementing management plans, coordinating conservation planning and monitoring, engaging with communities, and supporting sustainable livelihoods around protected areas.

The work we do directly impacts the people of Guyana, wildlife, and ecosystems, while also contributing to global biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. We collaborate with indigenous peoples, local communities, other government agencies, and development partners to ensure that Guyana’s natural heritage is protected for generations to come.
