Jake Barnes

Semiconductor Process Engineer at Protochips

Jake Barnes has worked in a variety of roles across multiple companies. From 2014 to 2015, they worked as a Construction Worker for Cooper Electrical, where they assisted in the renovation project of Rubenstein Library at Duke University. Jake also worked as a Team Member at Chick-fil-A-Franchise during this time. From 2015 to 2017, they worked as Electrical Director for Team Sunergy - Appalachian State SVT, where they managed 25+ graduate and undergraduate students to ensure the performance and durability of a solar powered race car. Additionally, they worked as a Lab Assistant at Appalachian State University from 2017 to 2018, teaching and grading Introductory Physics Lab and mentoring 30+ undergraduate students. From 2018 to 2022, they worked as a Process Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer for Wolfspeed, where they were responsible for sustaining and qualifying new dielectric deposition processes and improved the capacity, throughput and yield of eight PECVD toolsets. Jake also aided Operations and Technicians in recovering tools during line-down scenarios. Currently, they are a Semiconductor Process Engineer for Protochips.

Jake Barnes attended Carrboro High School from 2009 to 2013. Jake then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering Physics/Applied Physics at Appalachian State University from 2013 to 2017.
