Soyon Kim has a diverse work experience in scientific and research roles. Soyon is currently working as a Scientist at Provivi, Inc. starting in December 2022. Prior to that, they were an Innovation Scientist at Beyond Meat from December 2020 to August 2022. Soyon also served as a Scientific Advisor at CellMEAT, a cultured meat start-up in Korea, from May to August 2020.
Before entering the industry, Soyon Kim gained extensive academic experience. Soyon was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles from April 2019 to July 2020, where they focused on designing a controlled release system for therapeutics and developing hydrogel carriers for bone regeneration. As a Graduate Researcher at UCLA from October 2012 to March 2019, they worked on biomimetic hydrogel development for tissue engineering and the creation of dual-function hydrogels. During this time, they were also involved in teaching assistantships and fellowships.
Soyon Kim's professional journey started at Samsung Techwin, where they worked as a Staff member in the Biotechnology Group from 2010 to 2012. In this role, they analyzed the Point-of-Care-Testing market and participated in a government-funded project for developing a Mass spectrometry-based diagnosis system. Prior to that, they served as a Graduate Researcher at Seoul National University from 2008 to 2010.
Soyon Kim completed their Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from Yonsei University in 2008. Soyon then pursued a Master's degree in Environmental Materials Science from Seoul National University, which they completed in 2010. Following this, they attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where they obtained their Ph.D. in Bioengineering in 2019.
