James Austin has a diverse work experience in various industries. James is currently working as a Lead Mechanical Engineer at PSYONIC since January 2019. Prior to this, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Alberta from September 2016 to August 2018, where they focused on developing pattern recognition-based myoelectric control of a robotic arm and conducted statistical analyses of experimental data. James was also involved in the development and assembly of a modular prosthetic socket for transhumeral amputees.
Before their time at the University of Alberta, James worked as a Member of Technical Staff at MDA from January 2013 to May 2016. James also gained experience as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at McGill University in the summer of 2013. Additionally, they served as the VP Academic at the Engineering Undergraduate Society of McGill University from May 2012 to August 2013, where they represented students and collaborated with faculty and administration to bring about changes in curriculum and policies.
James began their career as a Student Resident Assistant at Bombardier Aerospace in the summer of 2011. Overall, their work experience demonstrates their expertise in mechanical engineering, research, and academic leadership roles.
James Austin holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta, which they completed from 2016 to 2018. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, completing it from 2009 to 2013. James also holds a Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Honours Science from CEGEP - John Abbott College, which they earned between 2007 and 2009.
