Dr. Connor is recognized as a leader in the field of sports medicine, and over the last 20 years has authored numerous book chapters and hundreds of articles on the topic. He serves as head team physician for the NFL's Carolina Panthers, the Charlotte Knights (AAA Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox), and Joe Gibbs’ Racing. He is a member of the executive committee of the National Football League Physicians Society (NFLPS), where he served as president from 2009–11. Dr. Connor was recognized as one of the nation’s Top Doctors in US News & World Report for 2012–13.

Dr. Connor is certified as a diplomate, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS), and has ABOS subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is on the Peer Review Editorial/Consultant Boards of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the American Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, and the American Journal of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Connor attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma, did his residency training at Carolinas Medical Center in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, completed a fellowship in shoulder surgery at New York Orthopaedic Hospital, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, and did post-residency training in elbow surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
