Jason Contrera began their work experience in 2005 as an intern at Genesee Survey Services Inc., where they assisted in monitoring and supporting network infrastructure. Jason also set up and integrated new technologies within office computer hardware. In 2005, they worked as a Gateway Computer Technician at The Sutherland Group, where they troubleshooted hardware, software, peripheral, and networking problems for external customers. Jason also had sales responsibilities in this role. In 2006, Contrera joined De Carolis Truck Rental Inc. as a Rental Agent/Manager, where they managed rental fleet/fuel island operations and kept detailed rental and financial records. From 2006 to 2012, they worked at CUnet, a Nelnet Company, as a Technical Operations Analyst/Web Applications Developer. In this role, they worked on web applications development and technical operations. In 2012, they joined Leveraging Technology, Inc. as a Systems Consultant, estimating work effort on client projects, maintaining internal communication, coordinating software system installations, and updating managers on project status. Finally, Contrera joined PX Inc in 2014 as a Technical Analyst, working on their platform that offers access to leads and calls from various sources. In this role, they focused on lead quantification and facilitating lead buying at optimal prices.

Jason Contrera attended Finger Lakes Community College from 2003 to 2005, where they obtained an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Networking Technology and Computing Systems Support. Additionally, they obtained a certification as an IBM Certified System Administrator for WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment V7.0 from IBM in November 2012.
