Marco Antonio Lopez is President and Chief Executive Officer of International Business Solutions, Inc. (IBS), a business advisory firm he founded in 2011 to provide strategic business development and policy direction to both international and domestic organizations.
He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves as Senior Adviser to the Chairman of Grupo Carso and The Carlos Slim Foundation. Mr. Lopez previously served as U.S. advisor to the successful presidential campaign of Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto on topics of border security and safety, border trade and commerce, and economic development. Before founding IBS, he was Chief of Staff at the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), helping lead an organization with a $12 billion budget and 60,000 employees.
Prior to his transition into the private sector, Marco exhibited strong leadership skills in the public sector from a young age. At 22, shortly after graduating from the University of Arizona with a degree in Liberal Studies and Political Science, he was elected mayor of Arizona's largest border community of Nogales, Arizona—making him one of the youngest mayors in the United States. From there he moved into Janet Napolitano’s gubernatorial administration in Arizona as an advisor and eventual Director of Arizona’s Department of Commerce.
