Gavin Powell

Gavin Powell has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Gavin is currently working as the Chief Operating Officer at QPQ since February 2023. Before that, they were the Chief Enterprise Operations Officer & ESG lead at QPQ from February 2022 to February 2023. Prior to that, they served as the Operations Principle & Exec Director at QPQ from April 2021 to April 2022.

Before joining QPQ, Powell worked at Connect & Convey Ltd as an Exec Director starting from December 2018. In this role, they were responsible for national, regional, and sectoral business model development, financialisation. Gavin also focused on net zero, decarbonisation, and sustainability initiatives as well as strategic assessment, planning, change, and transition.

Additionally, Powell served as the Interim Chief Technology Officer at Avoir Fashion from November 2018 to May 2023. Gavin was responsible for overseeing the company's technology operations during this period.

From March 2019 to January 2021, Powell worked as the Exec Director & General Secretary at Fintech Wales. In this position, they were instrumental in creating the FinTech Wales organization and developing its associated strategy. Gavin also initiated impacts and disruptions to the ecosystem and environment to support fintech innovation and economic growth across Wales.

Powell gained significant experience in project and program management during their tenure at Airbus Group Innovations. Gavin held multiple roles at the company, including Head of Operations, TXD from June 2016 to August 2017, Head of Project and Program Management from January 2016 to August 2017, and Lead Fusion Engineer & Change Management from February 2009 to January 2016. In these positions, they were responsible for managing projects and programs, implementing best practices, and driving change initiatives.

Gavin also has experience working at Airbus, Airbus Defence and Space, and Airbus Group in various roles related to contract management, operations, and program management.

Prior to their work in the aerospace industry, Powell served as the Prince's Trust Million Makers Chairman at Airbus Group from September 2013 to April 2014. In this role, they developed and managed a program to generate revenue for the Prince's Trust charity by leveraging business methods and strategies. Powell successfully executed a program on a scale previously unseen by the organization.

Powell has also gained experience in the MedTech industry, serving as a Director at +10 technologies from October 2006 to November 2009. Gavin managed teams, projects, and clients throughout the MedTech project lifecycle.

Apart from their professional work, Powell has also contributed to academia as an Associate Lecturer at Cardiff University from April 2007 to April 2008.

Prior to their PhD, Gavin completed a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Artificial Intelligence with Engineering Applications at Cardiff University/Prifysgol Caerdydd from 1997 to 1998. Gavin also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Civil Engineering with Management from the University of Wolverhampton, which they completed from 1995 to 1998.

In addition to their formal education, Gavin Powell has obtained several certifications. Gavin became an Agile Certified Scrum Master from Agile Alliance in August 2017 and a certified Project Manager from Airbus in the same month and year. Gavin also completed the Airbus Group Leadership Programme at Airbus Group Inc. in June 2016. Further certifications include Lean 6 Sigma BB from Firebrand Training in February 2015, Lean 6 Sigma GB from Oakland Consulting LLP in September 2014, Managing Successful Programmes (Advanced) from APMG-International in December 2013, and a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute in July 2013.
