Mark de Burgh

Senior Engineer at Quantum Brilliance

Mark de Burgh began their professional career in 1993 as an Experimental Scientist at the CSIRO Division of Telecommunications and Industrial Physics. In this role, they conducted research into video coding and compression, loudspeaker measurement and compensation, radio communications for coal mines, a universal high-speed modem, face recognition and tracking, and ultrasounic imaging for underwater mines. Mark also developed software in C++ and Windows programming, as well as hardware design in Protel 98SE and VHDL. In 1999, they moved to Comsec TR Pty Ltd as the R&D Manager. In 2004, they completed a PhD in quantum information science at the University of Queensland, focusing on the fundamental limits of quantum measurement. In 2008, they joined Dolby Laboratories Inc. as a Staff DSP Engineer, where they optimized signal processing algorithms for mobile phones and designed patented new algorithms for cloud APIs for speech enhancement. Mark also developed patented rendering algorithms for international standards and exploited the latest understanding in auditory neuroscience for signal processing algorithms in laptops and mobile phones to optimize the performance of loudspeakers for distortion and frequency response. Most recently, they have completed Andrew Ng's Coursera course in Deep Learning for Artificial Intelligence and is using cloud technologies, such as parallel processing and AWS, and Docker for speech enhancement APIs. In 2022, they began working as a Senior Engineer at Quantum Brilliance.

Mark de Burgh attended the University of Sydney from 1988 to 1993, where they obtained a B.E (1st Hons) and a BSc in Electrical Engineering, Physics and Computer Science. Mark then obtained a Certificate in Deep Learning from Coursera in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy in Quantum Physics from The University of Queensland.
