Osman M. Bakr is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, and head of the Functional Nanomaterials Laboratory at KAUST. He earned a B.Sc. in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT (2003), as well as an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard (2009). Osman Bakr founded The Functional Nanomaterials Laboratory in 2010, which now works on the design and self-assembly of hybrid and inorganic materials to generate breakthrough applications in solar energy harvesting and optoelectronic devices. Bakr has published over 200 articles, in premier international peer-reviewed research journals, including Science, Nature Energy, and Journal of the American Chemical Society. Osman Bakr was selected as a Young Scientist by the World Economic Forum (2016) and serves on the editorial boards of several leading journals of the American Chemical Society. He was named an Innovator Under 35 in the Arab World by the MIT Technology Review- Arab Edition (2016); one of the ten leading university researchers world-wide in the area of perovskite solar cells by the Times Higher Education (2018); and a Highly Cited Researcher by the Web of Science Group (2019).
