Poching Tsai

Coating Process Engineer at QuantumScape

Poching Tsai has a strong background in coating and engineering processes. They started their career at Chi Mei Optoelectronics, where they worked as an Engineer in the TFT ETCH department. At Chi Mei, Poching conducted plasma etching, set up and maintained dry etching instruments, tested and improved manufacturing processes, and implemented quality control and defect analysis.

After that, Poching joined Solarmer Energy, Inc. as a Coating & Device Engineer. In this role, they developed roll-to-roll precise multi-layer coatings, served as the interface between the R&D department and the manufacturing team, improved process capabilities for product quality and cost reduction, and carried out adhesive applying and flexible module laminating processes.

Poching then moved on to Nanosys, where they worked as a Coating and Film Engineer. At Nanosys, they were responsible for roll-to-roll coating quantum dot enhancement film. They ran JMP for Design of Experiments (DOE) and data analysis to improve the film's reliability and optical properties. Poching also contributed to optical and UV curable coating process development.

Next, Poching joined Capacitor Sciences, Inc. as a Coating Engineer. In this role, they optimized coating methods to reduce thickness variation, designed experiments for solvent and coating method selection, and introduced new substrates for defect analysis and coating quality control.

Poching then worked as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer at Tactus Technology. In this role, they performed statistical analysis on roll inspection data, conducted root cause analysis for mixture solubility issues, and applied Statistical Process Control (SPC) to evaluate the mixing and coating processes.

Currently, Poching is working as a Coating Process Engineer at QuantumScape, where their responsibilities are not mentioned.

Overall, Poching Tsai has gained extensive experience in coating and engineering processes throughout their career, with a focus on optimizing processes, improving product quality, and conducting data analysis.

Poching Tsai completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Chemistry at National Sun Yat-Sen University from 2001 to 2005. Following that, from 2008 to 2010, Poching Tsai pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Material Science & Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington. Additionally, Poching Tsai obtained several certifications, including a Short Course on Precision Coating and Drying from the University of Minnesota in October 2021. In August 2019, Poching Tsai obtained certifications in Risk Management: FMEA/FMECA, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and Statistical Process Control from Udemy.
