Gene Tyson is a professor at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) since 2020, having previously served as a professor at the University of Queensland from 2009 to 2020. They are also the founder and director of Microba, a position held since 2017. Gene completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology at the University of California, Berkeley from 2002 to 2006, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Microbial Ecology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2006 to 2009.
