Mark Harvey

VP, Business Development at QUT

Professor Mark Harvey is the Vice-President (Business Development) at QUT, a position he commenced in March 2019. Prior to this he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) at the University of Southern Queensland. In this role he leads QUT's Division of Business Development, which oversees the development and management of strategic partnerships with external individuals and organisations in the pursuit of QUT corporate objectives and priorities. The Division's offices, departments and entities include the Advancement Office, Corporate Engagement, Business Development and QUT Enterprise Holdings, the holding company for QUT bluebox and Creative Enterprise Australia. Prior to this, Professor Harvey spent seven years in the venture capital industry. Most recently he was a Partner with CM Capital Investments, one of Australia’s leading venture capital companies with over $250 million under management, and prior to this he was the CEO of an early stage investment and development company. In these positions, Mark played a significant role in the management of investee company’s research programs, finances, fund raising, intellectual property, physical assets and executive team recruitment. Professor Harvey has been on the Board of Directors of ASX and NASDAQ listed public companies, a member of the Investment Committee of two university seed funds, a member of numerous granting panels including Queensland Government Smart State investment programs and a member on the board of directors of AusBiotech Ltd, the industry body for the Australian Life Sciences sector. Prior to his venture capital experience, Professor Harvey worked with UniQuest, the commercialization company of the University of Queensland. During these five years, Professor Harvey played a major role in establishing and securing funding for ten start-up companies, and in negotiating licensing agreements with global life sciences organisations. Prior to joining UniQuest, Mark was a Senior Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology where he obtained NH&MRC and Queensland Cancer Fund grants to conduct research programs in cancer and developmental biology. Mark has a PhD in Physiology and a MBA from the University of Queensland. Professor Harvey is currently a Director of Sunsuper Pty Ltd and Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland.
