Product Manager at Qvantel

Marko Arola has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies. Marko started their career at EMBL in 1994 as a Trainee, where they worked as a SW Developer, focusing on measuring and recording deflection currents of an electronic microscope. In this role, they also coded a user interface using Visual Basic to control electrical measurement equipment.

After their time at EMBL, Arola joined Nokia in 1994, where they held various positions. Marko started as a DSP Trainee, working on programming GSM channel coder algorithms in Assembly for DSP Processor and optimizing program and data memory for the entire DSP project. Marko then became an M.Sc. Thesis Worker, specializing in timing analysis of DSP SW algorithms and control code for a DSP Processor in a mobile phone project. Additionally, they conducted SW optimization and created a guidebook for future projects.

Arola's next role at Nokia was as a DSP SW Engineer, responsible for optimizing the Layer 1 GSM Radio controller's SW for memory and power consumption. Marko also handled the release and SW configuration for the DSP SW team, as well as managed technical interfaces with hardware suppliers. Following this, they became an R&D Manager, leading a team in creating a scalable and configurable in-house DSP SW Platform for Nokia's 3G mobile phones.

In 2001, Arola transitioned to the position of Project Manager at Nokia, overseeing various projects until 2002 when they became a Senior Project Manager. In this role, they managed OMAP SW and Nomadic SW multimedia engine projects, working closely with external partners to define requirements, ensure quality, and coordinate technical interfacing practices.

Arola's tenure at Nokia continued with the role of Senior Manager, starting in 2004. Marko took on the responsibilities of an IT project manager, leading technology and resource outsourcing projects. Marko also led the Information Management & Tools team, overseeing IM and tools responsibilities with subcontractor companies in Symbian SW development.

In 2011, Arola joined Accenture as a Program/Project Manager. Marko'sresponsibilities included managing technology transfer projects between companies, knowledge transfer projects within the organization, and leading the Symbian SW tools and IT Infra team.

In 2017, Arola joined Futuriot as a Data Analyst, working on data analysis projects for the company for a few months. Marko then moved to Qvantel in the same year, starting as a Business Analyst and progressing to Senior Business Analyst. Currently, they hold the position of Product Manager at Qvantel.

Overall, Arola has an extensive background in project and program management, business analysis, data analysis, and product management, with a focus on SW development, telecommunications, and information management.

Marko Arola has a diverse education history in the field of Electrical, Electronics, and Communications Engineering. Marko obtained their Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree from Tampere University of Technology, where they studied from 1988 to 1995. As part of their studies, they also spent a year as an exchange student at the University of Sunderland from 1992 to 1993, focusing on the same field.

In 1997 and 1998, Marko attended the University of Tampere to broaden their knowledge in Economics and Marketing, although they did not complete a specific degree in those subjects.

In terms of further education and certifications, Marko participated in a Data Analytics Programme at the University of Tampere in 2017. Additionally, they obtained the Bluemix Essentials certification from IBM in March 2017, further expanding their skills and knowledge in the industry.
