Ciaran Murphy

Ciaran Murphy has a diverse and extensive work experience in the compliance and financial services sector. Ciaran started their career at Fitch Ratings as a Sovereign Ratings Analyst in 1994, followed by a role as a Senior Inspector at the Securities and Futures Authority in 1996. Ciaran then joined Merrill Lynch Europe as a Director in 1999 and later worked at Bank of America as an SVP from 2006 to 2007.

In 2008, Murphy joined Commerzbank AG, where they served as the Regional Head of Compliance, leading significant change to address the merger with Dresden Bank and successfully lifting a Cease and Desist Order in the US. Ciaran also held the role of SVP of FICC Compliance at Commerzbank for a brief period.

From 2010 to 2014, Murphy worked at RBS as the Head of Compliance EMEA, where they were responsible for designing and implementing compliance change initiatives and had executive regional management responsibilities.

Starting in 2018, they joined Norton Rose Fulbright LLP as a Senior Consultant in their Financial Services Practice, advising and contributing to regulatory projects for investment banking and infrastructure clients. Ciaran worked closely with lead partners and led various client relationships until their departure in 2022.

Since 2014, Murphy has been running their own consultancy, C MURPHY, as a Compliance Executive, providing services in compliance management consulting, design, and implementation, as well as interim leadership. Ciaran successfully completed a 15-month project for Credit Suisse Investment Bank in December 2017, where they built the new Conduct Risk Management Program within Compliance and oversaw metrics, reporting structures, and training.

In June 2023, Murphy will begin their role as the Director of Compliance at Railpen.

Ciaran Murphy earned a B.Sc (Econ) degree in Economics from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) from 1990 to 1993. Following that, they pursued an M.Sc. degree in Finance at Birkbeck, University of London, from 1993 to 1994. Additionally, Ciaran obtained certifications in Series 4, Series 7, Series 24, and Series 67 from a US Regulator, although the specific months and years of obtaining these certifications are not provided.
