James Thomas

Head of Engineering at Rainbird Technologies

James Thomas began their career in 2008 as a Transport Modeller at Mott MacDonald, where they were responsible for completing concurrent projects under tight time and budgetary constraints, collaborating with project managers, transport engineers, planners and environmental scientists, analyzing large data sets, and communicating ideas and results to a non-specialist audience. In 2011, they joined Siemens PLM Software as a Software Engineer, where they were the lead developer of the rendering, hidden line, ray fire and silhouette generation functionality. James was also part of the team responsible for the development and maintenance of the internal management systems and a member of the API committee that reviewed and approved all changes to the Parasolid API. In 2015, James moved to Simprints as an Algorithms Engineer, where they worked in a fast-paced, agile environment. In 2017, they joined ForgeRock as a Senior Staff Software Engineer. Finally, in 2022, James became the Head of Engineering at Rainbird Technologies, a low-code SaaS intelligent automation platform. In this role, they are responsible for all aspects of the design, development, testing, delivery, maintenance and infrastructure of the platform.

James Thomas received their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics from Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd in 2007, following their Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mathematics, which they obtained from the same institution in 2003. In 2018, they completed the Developing Applications with Google Cloud Platform Specialization from Coursera. The following year, they obtained the Application Security and Secure Coding Training course in Go from Codebashing. James is currently pursuing their ForgeRock Identity Management Core Skills certification from ForgeRock.
