Eben Upton

Eben Upton has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Eben is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Raspberry Pi Trading since September 2020. Prior to that, they co-founded Raspberry Pi Foundation in November 2008, where they hold the role of Founder.

Before their involvement with Raspberry Pi, Eben worked at Broadcom for an extensive period from July 2006 to September 2020. Eben held the position of Distinguished Engineer and was responsible for various aspects of video and graphics hardware development, including writing drivers, designing shader processor microarchitecture, and overseeing the VideoCore V multimedia architecture.

Earlier in their career, Eben served as the Director of Studies in Computer Science at St John's College, Cambridge, from September 2004 to August 2007. During this role, they were responsible for university lecturing, admissions, and arranging all teaching for undergraduate students on the Computer Science Tripos.

In addition, they founded Podfun, a lifestyle company, in September 2004, where they created and sold Java mobile games while working on their PhD. Eben also licensed out the underlying technology. Eben relinquished control of Podfun in July 2006.

Eben's earlier experiences include working as a Visiting Researcher at Intel Corporation from March 2004 to September 2004 and as the Founder and CTO of Ideaworks3D from December 1998 to September 2001. At Ideaworks3D, they led a team of 50+ employees in London, focusing on mobile games and middleware. Eben later left Ideaworks3D to return to academia.

Before their entrepreneurial ventures, Eben worked at IBM as a Software Engineer from September 1995 to June 1996. Eben was part of the Warwick Development Group and primarily worked on REXX and C programming under OS/2, as well as DB/2 database development.

Eben Upton's education history begins in 1996 when they enrolled at the University of Cambridge to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics and Engineering. Eben completed their undergraduate studies in 1999. Afterward, they attended the University of Cambridge again in 2000, this time obtaining a Diploma in Computer Science, which they completed in 2001. Seeking further academic achievement, Upton pursued a PhD in Computer Science, which they acquired from the University of Cambridge in 2005. To enhance their professional knowledge and skills, they pursued an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of Cambridge, graduating in 2011.
