Floyd Cottrell

Floyd Cottrell is a Partner in their Hackensack office and practices in their Firm’s commercial motor vehicle, construction, and premises liability groups.

Mr. Cottrell represents clients and insurance carriers in retailer & restaurant matters, construction defect cases, and commercial motor vehicle/trucking cases. As an experienced litigator, Mr. Cottrell has taken many cases to successful verdicts in bench and jury trials and has appeared at numerous arbitrations throughout New York and New Jersey.

After law school, Mr. Cottrell worked for several civil defense firms around the Philadelphia area before forming his own practice. Prior to joining Rawle, Mr. Cottrell was the managing partner of the Cottrell Solensky, P.A law firm.

Mr. Cottrell is a frequent contributor to several publications. His articles “The Weather is Lousy and It’s Not Even a Defense!” (2020) for the National Retail & Restaurant Defense Association, addressed the ‘Storm in Progress defense’ for businesses. In addition, he published “Shopkeepers’ Privilege” for the Defense Research Institute (2021) which covered the ability of a business to detain a suspected shoplifter.

“Four Tips in Deposing Plaintiffs” he published for Insight Magazine, Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (2022). Mr. Cottrell presented at the CLM Annual Conference in 2021 on “Conducting Foreign Discovery in a Pandemic.” He co-presented “Eyes on the Road: Acquisition and Use of Dashcam Footage in Accident Reconstruction” at the CLM Focus Conference in 2021.

He is on faculty of the CLM Claims College, School of Transportation; a member of the Trucking Industry Defense Association (“TIDA”); Past President of the Brennan-Vanderbilt Inns of Court; and currently on the Board of Directors of the National Retail & Restaurant Defense Association (“NRRDA”).

He is certified as a Civil Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He has an “AV” rating with Martindale-Hubbell and “AV” preeminent rating with them in the area of transportation law. He has been repeatedly recognized by New Jersey’ “Super Lawyers.”
