RAY (Refugee Action York) was established in 2002 by a group of local residents who came together in response to the growing need for support among people seeking sanctuary in the York area. Since then, we have grown into a trusted local charity, supporting individuals and families from a broad range of national, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
We work with people from all backgrounds who are seeking safety, stability, and a fresh start in the UK. Based in York, we provide practical support, language assistance, community connections, and opportunities for personal growth.
Our aim is to help people settle into life in the city of York with dignity, confidence, and a sense of belonging. We offer a range of services including information and guidance, youth and family activities, English language support, and pathways to volunteering and education.
Our work is made possible by a dedicated team of over 100 volunteers who generously give their time, skills, and energy to support our activities and sessions. From language support and youth programmes to community events and practical assistance, our volunteers play a vital role in delivering inclusive, impactful services across York.
