Jennifer Nelson

Jennifer Nelson is a media lawyer and newsroom counsel with over a decade of experience, currently serving as the Director of Pre-Publication Review & Journalist Support at the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press. They specialize in media law, empowering journalists and documentary filmmakers to navigate legal complexities in content creation while offering guidance on defamation, source protection, and security. Jennifer has previously held roles as an Associate Attorney at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and as a lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law. They began their career in journalism as an Editorial Assistant at The Boston Globe, where they contributed to investigative reporting. Jennifer holds a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and a BS in Journalism from Northeastern University.
