Ian Goodfellow

Ian Goodfellow is an esteemed virologist with extensive experience in academia and industry. Currently serving as Vice President of Antivirals at Recursion since November 2024, Goodfellow previously held the same position at Exscientia from March 2022 to November 2024. As a Professor of Virology at the University of Cambridge since October 2012, Goodfellow has made significant contributions to the field. Key roles include being a Subject Matter Expert at the Cambridge Lighthouse COVID-19 national testing laboratory from June 2020 to April 2021, an Academic Line lead during the earlier stages of the same laboratory, and a WHO GOARN Consultant for outbreak investigations. Goodfellow also played a crucial role in establishing a diagnostic laboratory for the Ebola response in Sierra Leone. Educational qualifications include a PhD from the University of Nottingham and a BSc in Microbiology and Virology from the University of Warwick.
