Joyce Fee has extensive experience in the technical writing field, having worked for a variety of companies since 1995. Her earliest role was as a Senior Product Analyst at Oracle, where they tracked requirements for Oracle Product Development Exchange (OPDX) and contributed to the design of new features for several major releases. Joyce then moved up to Documentation Manager, managing a group of 10 senior writers who wrote the Oracle Server documentation in the Server Technologies division. Joyce was then promoted to Principal Technical Writer, where they planned, researched and wrote the first Oracle Server Backup and Recovery Guide.
Fee then moved to Brocade Communications as a Senior Technical Writer/Project Lead, where they worked as the team lead for two years and managed two major releases. Joyce was the publications team contact to other functional groups and received awards for their leadership and writing achievements. After Brocade, they moved to Cisco Systems as a Senior Technical Writer.
In 2008, Fee left Cisco to become the Co-Founder and Marketing Manager of Apprema, where they helped create a Web 2.0 application that sought to monetize social media. Joyce then moved to Unified Color Technologies as the Director of Marketing, where they created a marketing program to guide the initial product launch, drive sales and site traffic. After Unified Color Technologies, they worked as a Business Development Manager at NAVAJO Company.
Fee then moved to Hewlett Packard Enterprise as a Senior Technical Writer in 2010. After HPE, they moved to Cloudera as a Senior Technical Writer, where they worked on open source/Hadoop security software documentation and wrote the Migrating from the Cloudera Manager Embedded PostgreSQL Database Server to an External PostgreSQL Database document. Joyce also wrote a major rewrite of the Configuring KMS Access Control Lists (ACLs) documentation.
Most recently, Fee has been working at Confluent since 2019 as a Senior Technical Writer, where they write security documentation for Confluent Platform, Confluent Cloud, and core Apache Kafka software. Joyce is currently working on authentication protocols (SASL, OAuth, HTTP Basic Auth, mTLS), authorization (role-based access control (RBAC), ACLs, SSO), data protection (audit logging, secrets/encryption), and security compliance (FIPS). Joyce is set to begin a new role as Technical Writing Manager at Redpanda Data in 2022.
Joyce Fee holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from The Ohio State University and a Master of Arts in English from The Ohio State University.
