Alexa Schmitz serves as the Chief Executive Officer at REEgen since September 2022 and is also an Activate Fellow, contributing to a program that supports scientists in launching startups to combat climate change. Previously, Alexa held the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate at Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences from September 2018 to August 2022, and worked in various roles at the Boyce Thompson Institute, including Science Editorial and Web Associate and Graduate Research Assistant. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology from Cornell University Graduate School and dual undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Violin Performance from Oberlin College and Oberlin Conservatory, respectively.
