James Coates

James Coates serves as the Director of Data Engineering at RefinedScience since August 2023. Previously, Coates held positions including Data Integration Program Director at CU Innovations and Director of Data Integration at UnitedHealth Group. With extensive experience in health information technology, Coates has also been an adjunct faculty member at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, co-instructing a course in Health Information Technology Standards and Systems Interoperability. Coates has significant expertise in data management, having led teams at organizations such as HIMSS and IBM, where responsibilities included interoperability testing and compliance for life sciences. Coates is educated with advanced degrees in Public Health Informatics, Environmental Science, and Biology from reputed institutions.
