Michael Hawks

Lead Optical Engineer

Michael Hawks possesses extensive experience in research and academia, serving as Chief of the R&D Division at the Air Force Technical Applications Center from October 2005 to October 2008, and as a Research Assistant Professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology since October 2008. In addition, Michael held positions as an Assistant Professor at the US Air Force Academy (1997-2000), a Space Surveillance Engineer at US AF Phillips Lab (1994-1997), a Program Manager for IR Countermeasures at AF Research Laboratory (2000-2003), a Lead Optical Engineer at Resonant Sciences LLC (2020-present), and a Security Cooperation Desk Officer at US Central Command (2012). Educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University (1987-1991) and a PhD from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology (2003-2005), complemented by attendance at the Air Command and Staff College (2004-2005). At AFIT, responsibilities include independent research aligned with the Air Force's R&D needs and teaching various optics-related courses.
