Billy Pizer has a diverse work experience in research, policy engagement, and academia. Billy is currently the Vice President for Research and Policy Engagement at Resources for the Future. Prior to this, they served as a Senior Fellow at the same organization.
Beginning in 2011, Pizer held multiple roles at the Sanford School of Public Policy and the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University. These roles included the Susan B. King Professor and Faculty Fellow.
From 2017 to 2020, Pizer worked at the Duke University Sanford School of Public Policy as the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research and later as the Associate Dean for Academic Programs.
Earlier in their career, Pizer served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Environment and Energy at the US Treasury from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, they were a Senior Fellow at Resources for the Future from 1996 to 2008.
Additionally, Pizer worked as a Senior Economist at the Council of Economic Advisors from 2001 to 2002.
Billy Pizer pursued their education in a chronological order. Billy first attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1986 to 1990, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. Billy then proceeded to attend Harvard University from 1991 to 1996, during which they earned both a Ph.D. and a Master of Arts degree in Economics.
