John Sheblak

Lead Graphics Engineer at Retro Studios

John Sheblak has had a varied and impressive career in the game industry. John began their career in 2005 as Lead Engineer at the Digital Media Collaboratory, where they led an engineering team of 8 and implemented key features for the product. In 2006, they were an Engineering Intern at Electronic Arts, where they designed and implemented features for the rendering process and graphical look of the product. That same year, they were also a Teaching Assistant/Lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, teaching students game technology techniques and leading the development of an AI-based research platform. In 2007, they returned to Electronic Arts as an Engineering Intern, where they assisted in creating utility tools for the whole team. Finally, in 2008, they joined Retro Studios as Lead Graphics Engineer and Software Engineer (Level 4 - Senior). In this role, they designed and developed new technology for the studio, with a focus in rendering, and handled profiling and optimization of all renderer and shader code.

John Sheblak received their Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin in 2007, having started their studies there in 2003.
