Dirck Byler currently serves as the Great Ape Conservation Director at Re:wild, holding a position as Vice Chair for the IUCN Species Survival Commission, Primate Specialist Group, Section on Great Apes since February 2019. Prior experience includes leadership roles at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from January 2003 to February 2019, where Dirck oversaw Africa Programs with a $20 million budget focused on conservation efforts for great apes and other species, and managed the Great Ape Conservation Fund. Earlier roles in conservation included positions at Conservation International and The Nature Conservancy, among others, where Dirck contributed to strategic direction, program management, and scientific research. Dirck Byler holds dual master's degrees in Environmental Science and Public Affairs from the O'Neill School, along with a bachelor's degree in Development Economics and International Development from the University of Washington.
