John Cate has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. John worked at Amplifyd as an Advisor under the legal alias Gian Caterine starting in 2020. Prior to that, they held the position of Chairman and CFO under the same alias at RF Venue starting in 2017. From 1996, they worked at American Music Partners as a Songwriter & Publisher, where they had numerous film and TV placements and released multiple albums. John also served as the owner of the company and was involved in various music and media start-ups. In 2018, they joined DistroKid as an Advising CFO under the legal alias Gian Caterine until 2021. John also worked as an Advisor at SongLily Inc. from 2016 until 2020. Additionally, they were the founding principal and strategist at Audiam from 2013 to 2019 and played a key role in its acquisition by SOCAN. John Cate also participated in the Communications Futures Program at MIT from 2011 to 2017. John was a founding principal and CFO of TuneCore from 2005 to 2015 and held the position of Director of Business Development at eMusic from 1997 to 2001. John began their career as a Principal at Harris Miller Miller & Hanson Inc. from 1992 to 1998.
John Cate obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University. John then went on to pursue a PhD in Music Business from The Real School of Music Business, focusing on the field of study in Music Business.
