Donald Smith has had a diverse work experience in economic development and policy analysis. Donald served as the President of Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC), where they specialized in industrial and office real estate development. Prior to that, they were the VP of Economic Development for Carnegie Mellon / Univ of Pittsburgh, where they played a key role in several regional economic development initiatives. Donald also served as the Executive Director of Carnegie Mellon Center for Economic Development and worked as a Policy Analyst for RAND and PA Department of Commerce. Additionally, they had a brief role as an Intern at Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce and as a Director at Fort Pitt Capital Total Return Fund. Donald also worked as a Club Rep for West Penn Golf Association.
Donald Smith attended Harvard University from 1982 to 1986, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Following this, they enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University from 1988 to 1993, completing a Ph.D. in Public Policy.

The Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC) of Southwestern Pennsylvania was established in 1955 to foster new employment opportunities for business and industry and to diversify the regional economy of southwestern Pennsylvania. We are a private, non-profit organization that focuses on a dynamic, regional approach to economic development.
