Gustaf Haarhoff began their work experience as an Engineer In Training at Eskom - Research, Testing, and Development in 2001, where they gained exposure to various aspects of electrical power generation. In 2002, they joined TTS Electronics as an Electronic Design Engineer, where they were responsible for electronic design, firmware, and software development of various products, including optical fire detection systems for military vehicles. Gustaf then worked as a Software Engineer at Kidde Graviner from 2006 to 2007. In 2008, they became a Senior Electronic Engineer at Amphenol Terrier Technologies Systems, where they conducted design reviews for a new vehicle harness system and made recommendations for automated test equipment. From 2009 to 2020, they held the position of Senior Hardware and Software Developer at Esoterex Research / Hytronix, where they focused on circuit board design, layout, and prototype manufacture, as well as PC software development and embedded firmware development. Gustaf'sdiverse experience includes work with cloud-hosted services, mobile and desktop software development, circuit board design, and mechanical packaging of electronics. Since 2021, they have been working as a Software Engineer at RightCrowd.

Gustaf Haarhoff received their first degree, a B. Ing. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, from Rand Afrikaans University in 1997. Gustaf then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Maths and Applied Maths, which they obtained from the same university in 2000.
