Philip McDermid has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Philip began their career at the University of Queensland, where they worked as a Web Administrator, Systems Officer, and PC Technician, responsible for creating and maintaining Business Services Web and Intranet pages, providing support for departmental accounting software, and handling PC support and repair.

Moving on, Philip joined Sun Microsystems as a Developer, where they were responsible for the maintenance and development of a large web-based software system monitoring. Philip extensively used PHP, implemented a Zend Framework, Perl server scripts, and MySQL Database backend to improve security and usability.

After their stint at Sun Microsystems, Philip joined RACQ, starting as a Developer and eventually becoming a Team Leader. In these roles, they focused on providing solutions for various systems, with a particular emphasis on Online Shop and Online Ticket sales. Philip also managed third-party vendor projects and coordinated outsourced development and training.

Their next venture was at RightCrowd, where they have been a Principal Software Engineer since 2015. Recently, they relocated back to Australia and now works on the professional services side of the business, focusing on delivering, supporting, and maintaining software for customers. Their daily focus has shifted from coding to customer interaction, although their engineering background enables him to provide quick and accurate solutions to technical issues. Philip is involved in solution design, software development, training and mentoring, creation of documentation, technical support, quality assurance, and customer implementations.

Philip McDermid completed their Bachelor of Information Technology in Computer Software Engineering from Griffith University between 1995 and 1998.
