Curator Of 20th Century Art at Rijksmuseum

Mels E. is a seasoned curator with extensive experience in contemporary art, currently serving as the Curator of 20th Century Art at the Rijksmuseum since February 2023. As a Freelance Curator and Consultant since 2012, Mels has executed independent projects for prestigious institutions including the Stedelijk Museum and the Veem House for Performance, while also providing art advisory for corporate collections. Mels held the position of Assistant Curator for Displays at Tate from February 2019 to February 2022 and served as Exhibition Organiser at the Barbican Centre from February 2017 to February 2019. Previous roles include Assistant Curator at Liverpool Biennial, Contemporary Programmes Manager at Van Gogh Museum, and Co-curator of Marres Currents at Marres, House for Contemporary Culture. Mels has contributed to exhibitions as Guest Curator at Galerie Fons Welters and De Nederlandsche Bank, and holds an M.A. in Curatorial Studies and a B.A. in Cultural Studies / Art History from the University of Amsterdam, complemented by a Certificate in Gallery Studies from the University of the Arts London.
