Matt Breen

Matt Breen serves as the Chief Operating Officer at Rio Tinto’s Diavik Diamond Mine since August 2022 and previously held the position of General Manager Operations at the same site. Prior to this, Matt briefly took a family break after managing operations at Red River Resources, focusing on safety and health management systems. Matt’s extensive experience includes multiple roles at Rio Tinto, where project management, safety enhancements, and operational efficiency were prioritized, particularly during the Conveyor to Surface Project. Matt's background also encompasses leadership positions in various mining operations, where Matt led teams and overseen project schedules, safety compliance, and resource management. Educational qualifications include a Master’s degree in Mining Engineering and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mining and Mineral Engineering from Federation University Australia.
