Atta Behfar has a strong background in cardiology and regenerative medicine. Atta started their career at Mayo Clinic in 2009 as a Fellow in Cardiology and later became the Transplant Cardiology specialist. In 2013, they became the Director of the Van Cleve Cardiac Regenerative Medicine Program and the Braswell Deputy Director of Translation at the Center for Regenerative Medicine. Atta also served as the Co-Director for Innovation in Biological Agents/Drugs and the Medical Director of the Advanced Product Incubator CGMP Facility. In 2015, they joined Rion as a Founder, focusing on developing exosome-based therapies. Previously, they had also worked as a Special Scientific Advisor at Celyad and as the Director of Research at Cardio3 BioScience.
Atta Behfar's education history is as follows:
From 1994 to 1998, Atta Behfar attended Marquette University, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Mathematics.
From 1998 to 2006, Atta Behfar attended Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, where they received an MD degree in Medicine.
In addition to their medical degree, from 2000 to 2004, Atta Behfar pursued further studies at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, earning a PhD in Stem Cell Biology with a focus on Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
In 2001 and 2002, Atta Behfar also spent time at CRBM/INSERM Monpellier in France, where they pursued research in Stem Cell Biology and Cardiogenesis.
Continuing their medical training, from 2006 to 2009, Atta Behfar completed an Internal Medicine Residency Program at Mayo.
Finally, from 2009 to 2013, Atta Behfar pursued a Cardiovascular Disease Residency Program at Mayo, specializing in the field of cardiovascular disease.
It should be noted that no degree is specified for the residency programs, indicating that they are additional training experiences rather than higher education programs.
