Laurence Smith

Director of Financial Services Analytics at Risilience

Laurence Smith has been working in the finance industry since 1999. Laurence was a consultant at Volterra Consulting Ltd from 1999 to 2004 and then became self-employed as a consultant until 2006. Laurence then joined Aviva plc as a Pricing Manager, where they enhanced customer pricing algorithms for car and motorbike insurance and developed the pricing for a new online car insurance product tailored for aggregator websites. In 2007, they joined Lloyds Banking Group as a Credit Risk Modelling - Mortgages IFRS9 - Senior Manager, where they led a team to model the IFRS 9 impairment amount required for UK mortgages, worked closely with Credit Risk and Finance stakeholders to agree the models and adjustments needed to the model outputs, and transformed the team to utilize new modelling techniques and technologies. Laurence then held the roles of Corporate Credit Risk Senior Modelling Manager, Pricing Modelling and Strategy Lead, and Senior Pricing Manager. In their role as Pricing Manager, they developed individual customer pricing algorithms for retail products which optimized profitability by combining NPV and price sensitivity models, and led the modelling team to create individual mortgage pricing algorithms. In 2022, they joined Risilience as the Director of Financial Services Analytics.

Laurence Smith attended Haberdashers' Aske's School, Elstree from 1989 to 1996. Laurence then attended the University of Oxford from 1996 to 1999, where they obtained a 1st Class BA in Mathematics.
