At the River Discovery Center in Paducah, we believe the river is more than scenery—it’s an economic engine, a living classroom, and a pathway to future careers.

Our mission is to preserve river history while inspiring the next generation to see the river as a place of opportunity. Through hands-on education, interactive exhibits, and strong community partnerships, we help students understand how the river works today—especially the role of towing and barge industries in moving the goods that power everyday life.

For donors, partners, and supporters, our impact goes beyond sharing the river’s past. We’re also helping build awareness of river careers and supporting the pipeline of tomorrow’s workforce by connecting young people to real-world industry and possibilities.

Led by Executive Director Lindsey Launius, the River Discovery Center brings nearly 20 years of experience in marketing, communications, and community engagement—spanning award-winning storytelling and STEM-focused initiatives that introduce students to meaningful career paths. That same approach guides our work every day: blending education, history, and industry awareness to strengthen our community and honor the people who keep our rivers moving.
