John McVay currently serves as Area Operations Manager for Cumbria & Lancashire at RNLI since August 2023, and also holds the title of Independent Assurance Lead - Operations. Prior to this, John was the Strategic Lead for Safeguarding and Employer Health and Safety at City & Guilds from May 2022 to July 2023. John’s experience includes a role as Multi Agency Incident Command Trainer and Facilitator at the National Fire Chiefs Council from November 2019 to November 2022, and as Senior Emergency Planner at Sellafield Ltd from January 2021 to March 2022. Earlier career milestones include various leadership roles at Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, including Head of People Development and Assurance, T/Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Head of Operational Response, and Head of Community Risk Management from April 2011 to November 2019. John also held the position of Head of Emergency Planning at Cumbria County Council from January 2010 to April 2011 and previously served as Head Of Service Delivery and Divisional Commander (Allerdale and Copeland) at Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service from June 2006 to January 2010.
