John Murray

John Murray is a Principal and the Chief Business Development Officer at Robertson Stephens. He is involved with the strategic direction of the firm and responsible for partnering with advisors wanting to improve their client service and accelerate growth. John has over 25 years of experience in family office, venture capital and investment banking services.

Most recently, John spent 3 years as a member of the founding team at Advance Venture Partners (AVP), a venture capital firm established on behalf of the Newhouse Family in New York. Prior to AVP, John was a partner at GCA Corp (2174.jp) for 10 years, where he focused on M&A and private capital raising for growth companies. Throughout his career, John has worked in entrepreneurial roles within the financial services industry, including with the firms Deutsche Bank, Alex Brown, Robertson Stephens, and Franklin Templeton, all while based in San Francisco, CA.

John earned an MBA from The Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania, and an AB from St. Lawrence University. John is an avid golfer and skier. He enjoys life with his two children in Sun Valley, ID where they attend The Community School.
