John Sokol has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. John is currently working for johnsokol.com as a "Some dude who's building robots and stuff." Prior to that, they worked as an Advisor and Chief Scientist at RoboTerra, Inc. starting in 2014. John was a Senior Software Engineer at Luminar Technologies in 2017. In 2021, they joined Stryker as an Engineering Contractor, where they worked on R&D and assisted QA for Medical Device - Design Validation and Verification V&V. John also worked on troubleshooting HDMI 2.1 issues and STM32F embedded development. John worked as a Solutions Engineer at International Technological University (ITU) in 2014 and as a Software/Systems Architecture and Innovator at Anybots Inc from 2012 to 2014. In 1997, they founded Video Technology Inc., a consulting group and online magazine focusing on video development. John also worked at Citrix Online as a Sr. Applications Engineer, managing applications on a Global Cloud platform. Additionally, they have experience as a Senior Software Developer at Bosch North America, where they worked on Automotive Diagnostics Tools. John holds various technical roles and has expertise in software engineering, robotics, and video technology.

John Sokol attended Stanford University from 1987 to 1992, where they pursued a wide range of subjects without obtaining a specific degree. In 2018, they attended the Wolfram Summer School and received a certificate in Wolfram Language / Mathematica.
