Albert Abrie

Principal Scientist II

Albert Abrie is currently a team lead at Roche Diagnostics in Cape Town, where they oversee the development of improved DNA library preparation reagents. Previously, Albert served as a principal scientist and senior R&D scientist at Roche and Kapa Biosystems, respectively, focusing on product development and enzyme research for commercial applications. Albert also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Cape Town, conducting research on protein interactions related to blood pressure regulation. Their academic background includes a PhD in Biochemistry from Stellenbosch University, where they investigated enzyme diversity, alongside obtaining a BSc Honours in Biochemistry and a BSc in Chemical Biology. Additionally, Albert gained international research experience as a visiting researcher at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
