Gregor Schmidt

Lab Automation Scientist

Gregor Schmidt is an accomplished lab automation scientist with extensive experience in pharmaceutical and academic research settings. From October 2007 to February 2011, Gregor worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, focusing on the biosynthesis of cocaine in Erythroxylum coca and other alkaloids. Following this, significant roles included automation and robotics positions at ETH Zürich, Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, and Roche, where responsibilities encompassed managing large automation platforms, developing workflows for next-generation sequencing, and advancing laboratory automation technologies. Gregor holds a Doctorate in Bioengineering from ETH Zürich and a Diplom in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, contributing to a strong foundation in both practical and theoretical aspects of laboratory science. Additionally, Gregor is a certified paragliding instructor.
