J. Robert Michael, PhD, currently serves as HPC Systems Architect at Roche, focusing on the development and implementation of GPU-accelerated algorithms for nanopore sequencing data analysis. Prior to this role, J. Robert held several positions at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, including Acting Director of the Compute and Data Environment for Science and Chief Data Architect for the National Center for Computational Sciences, where strategic oversight and architecture for data-intensive computing were key responsibilities. At St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, J. Robert managed bioinformatics software development teams and oversaw the maintenance of high-performance computing systems for research applications. J.
