Paula Saá is a scientist with over 20 years of research experience in transmissible neurodegenerative diseases, specializing in bioassay development and disease diagnosis. They are a co-inventor of the protein misfolding cyclic amplification (PMCA) assay, which allows for the sensitive detection of prions. Paula has led numerous projects investigating the role of RNA in prion propagation and has extensive experience in laboratory supervision and mentoring. Currently, they serve as the Global Medical Affairs Lead for Blood Screening at Roche. Paula holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, graduating summa cum laude.
