James Gilbert

James Gilbert is an experienced engineer and technical leader currently serving as the Engineering Director at Rocket Lab, where they oversee avionics hardware, software, and flight safety systems for the Neutron medium-lift reusable launch vehicle. Previously, James held various roles at The Australian National University, including Lead Engineer and Program Lead for Optical Detector Systems, contributing to significant advancements in the field. Their career began with a role as a Research Assistant at the Anglo-Australian Observatory, followed by positions in electronics engineering and instrumentation at the Australian Astronomical Observatory. James is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford and holds a Master of Engineering from the University of Bath.
