Earlier experience includes a position as Research Scientist at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center from 2001 to 2007 and Postdoctoral Research Associate at Purdue University from 1997 to 2001. Benjamin Wei holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Peking Union Medical College and an MS/BS from Xi'an Jiaotong University.
