James Holdgate's work experience includes a variety of roles in different companies and industries. James started their career as a Mechanical Engineer at Baxall Ltd from 1996 to 2001. James then worked as an Industrial Designer and Senior Associate at DCA Design International from 2001 to 2007, where they specialized in designing drug delivery devices. In 2007, they became the Engineering Design Manager at IMI Cornelius, a role they held until 2008. From 2009 to 2013, they worked as a Senior Project Manager at Olympus, focusing on the development of electrosurgical instruments for laparoscopic surgery. In 2013, they joined Vax Ltd as the Head of New Product Development, where they managed product development and research for vacuums, carpet washers, and other cleaning appliances. Currently, they serve as the Chief Operating Officer at RootWave (Ubiqutek Ltd) since 2018, overseeing the development of electrical weed control systems for agricultural, horticultural, and urban applications.
James Holdgate attended Bingley Grammar School from 1987 to 1992. James then went on to study at Loughborough University, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Industrial Design from 1992 to 1995. After completing their undergraduate studies, they continued their education at Loughborough University and obtained a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Design Process from 1998 to 2002.
